I made this block using a pattern from Freddy Moran’s House quilting Book. After I put cats in the window I knew I was making it for my cat loving daughter. I quilted it on my Bernina 350PE machine using free style quilting. Then I added Sashiko stitching to the house in blue.

Sashiko is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching from Japan that started out of practical need during the Edo era. Traditionally used to reinforce points of wear or to repair worn places or tears with patches, making the piece ultimately stronger and warmer, this running stitch technique is often used for purely decorative purposes in quilting and embroidery.
