I made this block using a pattern from Freddy Moran’s House quilting Book. After I put cats in the window I knew I was making it for my cat loving daughter. I quilted it on my Bernina 350PE machine using free style quilting. Then I added Sashiko stitching to the house in blue.
Sashiko is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching from Japan that started out of practical need during the Edo era. Traditionally used to reinforce points of wear or to repair worn places or tears with patches, making the piece ultimately stronger and warmer, this running stitch technique is often used for purely decorative purposes in quilting and embroidery.

This is my latest peanut sauce recipe for spring rolls. It is thicker than the one that I make for sesame noodles. I brought it over to my friend’s Succah to share and she asked for the recipe, thus the post.
Ingredients
- 3 TBSP peanut butter
- 1 TBSP soy sauce
- 3 TBSP of boiling water
- 2 teaspoons agave syrup
- 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 large garlic clove or 2 small ones
Directions
- Combine peanut butter and hot water in a container. Mix well with a fork until peanut butter is dissolved.
- Add soy sauce, agave syrup, minced garlic and sesame oil.
- Mix well with the fork or use an immersion blender. It is too small an amount to put in a blender.

Now that Alma is 5 she needed a twin size quilt. Hanaleah helped me pick out what were at that time Alma’s favorite colors. Hanaleah and I went to cotton cupboard and picked out the fabrics and I created this quilt for her.
