Soaking beans

I usually soak my beans and then put them in the crock pot on the high setting until they are soft. This works well for me.

But yesterday I cooked my Moro beans without soaking. I let them go for over 5 hours in the crock pot and they never got soft. I tasted them every 30 minutes. I couldn’t believe how long they were taking.

I finally gave up and used them to make refries as I figured the mashing would help them digest better.

I am definitely a fan of soaking. I wish I had another pound of Moro beans to experiment with. My next 6 pounds of Rancho Gordo beans are in the mail. I wonder what the Bean Club’s beans are this quarter? I am excited they are on their way.
