What a cold winter we are having. I can’t get out to my garden with the cold drizzly weather. And I do so want to get some winter lettuce, beets, etc in the ground. Patience I tell myself. At least I went out and picked 2 big bags, one of spinach and one of lettuce.
I love the different colors of cauliflowers and cabbages I grew in my garden. Green and purple cabbage. White, orange(cheddar) and green (Romesco) cauliflowers.
Cauliflower and broccoli are so closely related that they are considered the same variety of the cruciferous family. As a member of this family it has sulfurous compounds that smell badly the more you cook it, so don’t overcook it.

I just came back from my garden. It is incredibly dry. We haven’t had any significant rain in forever. The spinach, kale, collards, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts , lettuce, parsley and cilantro are all thriving. Plus there are still beets, carrots and turnips in the ground. I am busy planning my next planting. I will put in more carrots, chard, lettuce, kohlrabi, anise, and beets this month and then on Valentine’s Day I will plant my red and white potatoes.
Now I have work to do, cleaning out the garden, digging and spreading compost.
