Brown Gravy, vegan

My daughter Rose says that making gravy is difficult , but I think not. Just take the steps slowly.

  • 1/2 cup unbleached white flour
  • 2 Tablespoons canola oil
  • 1/2  tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic
  • 2-3 cups vegetable  broth or water
  1. Heat a cast iron pan to medium.
  2. Add flour and whisk while browning. It is your choice whether light, medium or dark brown.
  3.  Turn off pan and let flour cool.
  4. Whisk in oil.
  5. Slowly whisk in 2 cups broth or water.
  6. Turn pan on  to medium again and add spices.
  7. Continue adding water until proper consistency and gravy comes to a boil.
  8. Turn stove to low and cook for 5 minutes  adding broth or water if desired.
